If I took up throwing bricks at groups of armed men, I'd expect them to shoot at me after the first brick, and so should any one else.
I actually thought it was rather decent of the officers to endure the bricks and chunks of asphalt for what seemed hours, waiting for all the women and children to be cleared out, leaving only the extremists, before letting fly.
Kent state massacre was just 2 years earlier where kids were being shot through the mouth and neck with M1's, for the same but less.

@VaLoRFeRGi Its quite clear that you are just a boy. Here is a message to all the whingers that curse us Brits. OK we may have, at times have treated you badly, and not only in Londonderry, our landlords were bastards in the 1800's But remember this. We BUILT your country, we EDUCATED you (Why otherwise do you speak English?) You could ultimately have benefited from our strength. Oh- and lets not forget the women and kids butchered by the cowardly IRA. They are Ireland's REAL enemies believe me

"We have no evidence" no we don't because the Pictish language was wiped out, unlike Irish which survived. As to Christianity, don't get me started there
-
@fairplaynationalist2 The difference is your insinuation that there was a sinister policy of "wiping out" the Pict language. We have no evidence for this and using it as an excuse to justify unrelated aggressive behaviour 1000 years later gets us into very murky waters.
I would imagine that because literacy & Christianity were introduced to Scotland via the Gaels,Gaelic was preserved through the educacational institutions and literature while Pictish became redundant.

Ha Ha Ha Cultural shift. If you are Irish then the fact you are writing in English must be a cultural shift too.
The Irish colonisation (oops sorry cultural shift) of Scotland would mean many Scots having some Irish blood just as many Irish have some English blood if you go back far enough. What exactly is the difference then?
-
@fairplaynationalist2 There was no policy of "wiping" out any language. It was a cultural shift.
The Scots looking for "payback" would have been at least partially descended from those who introduced Gaelic into Scotland. If they were to be angry at such a thing then they might as well be angry at themselves.
-
Well it was the Irish who colonised Scotland first, wiping Brythonic and other origin Pictish from the face of the earth of languages so I suppose the Scots might have seen it as payback time
-
@fairplaynationalist2 It was Loyalist Scotch scum who were the worst during the troubles. Would that they and their colonists fucked off back to the Lowlands.
Just after watching the bloody sunday film and being from the bogside in derry its wierd having a film based on where you live and although i was not born at the time this occured i still know that all the soldiers that shot that day should be all lined up in front of the queen and shot (that is all)
