The southeast flow has branched off from the east tube and its front on Nov 15 was about four miles from the source of the July 21 Fissure Eruption. The first minute of this video shows the a'a front going through a young forest growing in a 1977 flow. The remainder shows a number of small pahoehoe flows breaking out of the western side of the main southeast flow.

Watching that I couldn't help but think about the red weed in War of the Worlds... spreading out in all directions, the red weed covered and consumed everything in it's path......

Nice post. Mostly one only gets to see videos of the less viscous stuff.

Yeah, I know. It's somewhat like raising the ocean floor, like the Japanese are doing. They must have killed some algae, but now there's more ground for them, maybe even farming ground.

It'd be very nice if we knew how to convert this energy into something a little more constructive... Something more than a beautiful natural depiction.
Bad English? Sorry.

It is only destructive in the very short term. The Hawaiian Islands were created by flows like these over millions of years and made it possible for plant and animal life to thrive. Even now, the Big Island is getting bigger as lava reaches the Pacific Ocean and forms new land.

Google "Kilauea" and go to the usgs website. They have daily updates, photos, and maps of the flows. The flows change constantly. They start from the source at the rift zone, go for a few miles, stop, and then start over again at the source, but in a different direction.
