  • You have to trust your belayer to keep enough - but not too much - slack in the rope. He or she must feel the rope moving with their hands and keep a few feet of slack - just a little droop in the rope. You can yell 'Slack!' or 'watch me!' but your belayer might not be able to hear you. Sometimes you just have to decide to trust your belayer, and forget them until you reach the belay.

And your belayer must be prepared to catch a fall at any moment without warning.

  • The Contour takes a little practice to use. for climbing, but I still recommend it. Be careful abotu exactly where you mouunt it to your helmet - climbing helmets have lots of angles of them that can point the camera in the wrong direction. And use the widest-angle video setting for recording. If you are going to have a rope above you (top roping for example), consider taping the camera to your helmet - if you catch it on the rope, the rope will tear the camera off its mount. Good luck!

  • Great question - once the rope is up and attached to the anchor at the top, a second person climbs up, protected by the rope, and removes each piece of gear.

  • 100 feet tall.
