It came down to the bitter end for the Canucks during the 2000-01 season. After going winless in seven straight games leading into a home tilt with the Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver needed a win in its second last contest of the year to secure a playoff birth and ward off the pesky Phoenix Coyotes. Someone needed to step up and the unlikeliest of heroes emerged in Harold Druken. The swashbuckling forward was in a rut of his own having not scored in 13 consecutive games, but late in the 2-2 nail biter he broke out of his funk. Taking a pass from Todd Bertuzzi as he cut in front of the net, Druken snapped a shot past Felix Potvin to give the Canucks a 3-2 win and a secured playoff birth for the first time in four years.

  • why would we put a backup goalie in such a important game ?

  • Bob wasn't really that back-up at that point. Potvin had been traded to the kings earlier in the year, so Bob was the No.1 and Cloutier was his back-up.

  • yea i watched that game, but i forgot who was our goalie in that game. cloutier was on the bench... eh

  • Bob Esensa(sp?)

  • was this a crazy game ? why is everyone going nuts

  • look at the description on the right of the Video. That should tell you all you need to know. ;)

  • @Kamjared No they didn't. They had to win regardless.

  • @Kamjared I remember that game, they won it and there was still 5 minutes to go between Phoenix and San Jose, San Jose won their game 2-0.

  • ahaha look at the little baby sedins.

who would've predicted Henrik would be Captain??

  • This is actually one of the maybe 12-15 Canuck goals that I will never forget. This goal put us into the playoffs for the first time in what must've been 5 or so years, which is an eternity in Vancouver, throw in the fact that the Keenan-Messier combo was here for three of those years, made it a living hell for Vancouver hockey fans.

  • @ilovehockeyplayersss sorry dude ur wrong about that. both phx n van finished that year with 90 points. but nucks had 36 wins compare to yotes 35. if druken didnt score, phx would made it because they have a better record.

    BOBBY! BOBBY! BOBBY!

  • they clinched the spot during the middle of that game when they found out phoenix lost

  • watching this just brought goosebump....i remember i followed the Canucks since 1993...through ups and downs after that 1994 Stanley cup...1996 Bure fall out and the horrible 97,98,99,00 (remember that last game against Edmonton, when they made that huge run down the stretch, and failed at the last game)...then 2001 vs Detroit .. with the hair dyed blond...I forgot who they were :D

  • Pride of St John's baby, probably the only highlight of drukens career
