One wonders if the legendary contralto, Marietta Alboni, or the great mezzo, Sofia Scalchi, performed this aria any better than Marilyn Horne does here. We'll never know for sure, but at least we have performances such as this by Horne to give us some inkling of the glory of bel canto singing.

@Chasson0318 You should hear her teach these days. She has PLENTY of voice left...and knows exactly what to say/do to get what she wants out of a singer....with no Diva attitude at all. Great singer, teacher, and human being.

I can't imagine anything harder than to come out and deliver this murderous aria after waiting backstage for God only knows how long, just basically cold. But I'm completely overwhelmed with what a knock out performance this was. Her final low notes on the word "sapro" are positively BARITONAL.
