A short how-to, on the method or technique on how I would model a car wheel. It's based on the use of instances and the symmetry modifier.

  • Hi, i'm stuck at cutting (2:40) I clicked on Cut button in edit geometry but it cuts only one object's face (which is exactly in front of me, and not the one behind) so when i delete those vertexes (3:13) 3ds max deleted them only from the cutted face, and not from the behind one. So in the box are holes, and i can normally use Cut tool only on planes, or i have to use Shell modifier... Please tell me how to cut throught two faces, (the nearest one, and the behind one at the same time)

  • @jatnieksbezgalvas I already deleted the 'ones behind' at 2:06, so that I don't have that problem. :)

  • where is the rest of the wheel? u made just front?

and u should show on the end what parts of wheel make by ~smooth

  • @b4rti What 'rest of the wheel' do you mean? Are you talking about the tire? If so, then that would be a different tutorial, as you would use a different technique to create it and all my tutorials are about a specific technique to create certain types of objects.

  • Good tut, be good if u could say what keyboard shortcuts ur using too, thanks thumbs up!

  • Thanks for the great vid man... :)

  • @2Fast4Mellow A wheel is the inside part that attaches to the hum.The outside part is the tire which then attaches to the wheel. Rim is just a slang term that people use, that technically doesn't make sense as the tire forms the rim of the total wheel/tire rotating mass. A ferris wheel is not called a ferris rim.

    Good tut btw.

  • Wowww I would love to know how to model as you do. Someday I will, I hope :D

  • @fearworldproductions my stupid friend wrote that comment we both have this username ,

  • @GBR1993 he only want to help us ,why u say like that?

  • Technically speaking this is just a rim. A wheel consist of a rim and a tire.

But I love this technique. I'm only just starting, but videos like these help me avoid a lot of mistake like fully verticing the whole rim.

  • lol lmao same wheel as mine :D
