Check out Deek's book HERE- http://www.amazon.com/Humble-Simple-Cottages-Ramshackle-Retreats/dp/076277146...
Based on design concepts from the book "Humble Homes, Simple Shacks" by Derek "Deek" Diedricksen. For use in the #Occupy movement- Boston, Wall Street, Chicago? Or for camping, vacation weekend getaways, etc....

  • To answer a few questions (then its off to build a greenhouse, AND a passive solar home heater).

-Window in the rear was a simple storm pane- framed out with scrap wood and discarded radiation screening. The cut shape was simply free-form and chosen by the workshop attendees.

-Ventilation- I've left the roofing edges/corrugations open for the time being- which helps- ideally I would add a small opening window. Good eye...

-Redshift- yes, all those other project will prob be on this channel...

  • The camera (or lens) is so crappy i can see pixles half an cm in lenght!

  • @Fekillix yes you can! feel free to mail me a better camera, or money for one- lol. Yeah, it isn't so hot- just a flip camera....sorry (all I have)- I'm working on getting something better at some point, but with constantly tossing money into the show and its builds (a loss) it tough to set aside $1000 or so for a better camera....

  • @relaxshacksDOTcom LOL And here *I* was marveling on how good the video looks considering it's a flipcam. #ItsAllRelative

  • @speedbmp Too funny- the initial commenter probably watched the vid in full screen mode- and perhaps on a large monitor. I honestly have no probs with the flip camera, given how small and affordable it is/was- I don't lose sleep over the possibility of losing it too. I do want to get a better camera, but for $170, I have no complaints and this thing has paid for itself ten times over.

  • I'd like to see you tackle something a little more substantial like a shack built for longer stays, maybe a little like the houses Jay Shafer are building, it would be interesting to see your take on it

  • @Redshift21 I hear ya (this was simply from my workshop- built in ONE day). Jay Shafer actually asked me to build one/wanted to see my take on his design- I jokingly told him "sure, toss me $20,000 for materials, and find me a year of free time, and I'm game!"- no, I'd love(!) to, but time and money is tough- BUT...the next Make video is on a larger piece- a Catskills Treehouse, we built a tiny guest house for The History Channel last month, and I've helped to redesign an 800 square foot home..

  • Is that an Aztec Taking a dump while watching TV

  • Hey Deet. I get the impression your posts are getting to be more funky (which is cool), but include less details on how things were actually done. Is this little shack in a book, on a blog, or some other place?

  • Love your videoooos!!!! :D

  • what if someone tries to steal it?

  • Good job Deek BB!

    You look so cute.

  • Ahhh yes, the ancient Aztec God of taking a dump, you can spot him by his unique red appearance. This is caused by his eternal strain.

  • FINALLY another video. More, more often please :D
