**********************************************

Around the world, most of the people know the word Geisha. In Kyoto, it is more common to use the word Geiko. The word Maiko refers to the young Geiko (Geisha) apprentices.

On November 5, we had this great event in Omotesando, Tokyo. On that Saturday, the Fashion Magazine VOGUE was celebrating the 2011 Fashion's Night Out in the area.

The great feature for our party was that we invited one Geiko and two Maiko to perform traditional dances, to show and promote the culture of Kyoto in the Tokyo area.

In the party we counted with the presence of many Kyoto Fans, who shared with us an exceptional evening.

  • Very beautiful, colorful and enjoyable. You did an excellent job with the camera. What model of camera did you use? But the audience is very noisy. It is hard to concentrate on the performance.

  • @alexandermakoto Thank you! Glad you like the video. I was using a Canon EOS Kiss, for both photos and the video. And as you point out, the camera got all the surrounding audio... maybe next time I should use a microphone and put it near the Geiko playing the Shamisen.

  • @KyotoFan

What a coincidence. I have an old Canon Rebel XT digital SLR. I want to purchase a HD video camera as well.

  • @alexandermakoto Oh! I see! Well, for shooting video it would be a great idea!

  • Hi! I'm a maiko san and geiko san fan ^^ The maiko san on yellow kimono is Yaemi san and the one on lilac kimono is Fukuho san. The geiko san is Miehina san. They are from Miyagawa cho district in Kyoto. Hope you enjoyed their performance ^^

  • @Yukiguni1985 Yes, you are completely wright! We enjoyed very much the show by Geiko Miehina, and Maiko Fukuho and Maiko Yaemi. Would like to have the opportunity to see them dancing again! :)
