Americans take 911 for granted, but in many developing nations a centralized emergency telephone number is unheard of. In Mumbai, a private ambulance company has stepped up to fill the void in emergency medical service. In a city where "ambulance" used to be synonymous with "hearse," Mumbai residents can now dial 1298 and receive emergency medical care priced on a sliding scale.

  • That's the best Indian music EVER!!

  • Indian girls make my so fucking horny! She is cute mmmmmmm

  • @tokallo814 Rotary phones? HA! They don't even work anymore... Good fail.

  • As i understand it they charge according to your ability to pay. Also, accident victims are always transported free, then worry about ability to pay later

  • look at the way the numbers are set up on modern phones....

Don't yout think it would be easier to dial repeated numbers instead of scrolling across the number pad? (could you imagine an older person having a heart attack and having to dial 1298 on a rotary phone!)

111 is the way to go....

  • always a good thing providing timely-critical care to save a life.

  • too much indians on this planet.

  • Actually no,I am not saying that.I'm saying that they should have specifically one EMS provider throughout India.Apparently, the government is too weak to do that, they shouldn't even have followed Britain's democratic system for this huge country.Give the president and mayors some more powers.

  • so let's pretend for a second I'm in one of the huge majority of cities that don't have it, and I have a heart attack. You're saying that "108" would be better to dial?

    Moron.
