@WorldOfSnakes The site doesn't teach about the rules of grammar and why things are the way they are. It just teaches you how it is. It's an excellent site to go as preparation for a real Japanese course that you may take after. It's free and it's great. I am taking Japanese classes now, and I realize I'm glad I went to this site to practice beforehand. Plus I met great people!

The only downside in my opinion was that the site teaches you only informal Japanese.

There's also the excellent site (in my opinion) that is "livemocha".com. It's a site in which you create an account for free, and then you do Japanese exercises that will be corrected and reviewed by native Japanese people. In return, you review their own exercises that they do in English, or in whatever language you may speak. For example I was teaching French, English and Arabic, and learning Japanese from them. One called me "my great teacher" so it felt good:)
