Here is Amtrak Train 317 of March 25, 2011, led by P40 road number 809. We appreciate the friendly waves from the crews of the "Silver Bullet at Rensselaer, Indiana this fine morning." #809 is the last of the George W. Bush stimulus P40's, and is still under test, along with two others. There are now 12 of the 15 in service. Another one of the test units, #822, is in special paint for Amtrak's 40 year anniversary. They got the special "racoon" windshield treatments, as the old windshield frames were eaten out with rust.

The new platform at REN is almost done, just some clean up to do, and the railings need to be finished. The old bus shelter is still here, but now there is some lighting, a handicap ramp, and of course tons and tons of concrete and rebar.

There were some special cars on the Silver Bullet today, an old UP 10-6 sleeper, the Pacific Bend, and the Hermosa Beach, California superliner coach car. The two coach cars actually used on this train are at the rear, with the rest being deadhead cars. There was a food car on the back, #48189, but don't know if it was in service or not.

  • All good things must end I suppose.

  • Bring 'em on. Thank God for Amtrak California. I am always glad to see the Beech Grove people having work to do and the funding with which to do it. Their cumulative experience and ability is unmatched anywhere else, and if they can keep the repair lines going and keep these folks on board, so much the better.

  • Yeah, I wanted to get 809 before she heads out to the four winds, I wouldn't think she would be running here much longer. One of the danged extra cars got by me, unfortunately. I think it might have been a heritage diner. But I did get the Hermosa Beach California car, and the 10220 which is apparently a renumbered ex-UP sleeper.

  • I haven't seen 809 in a while

  • Nice video! Glad to see 809 is sounding great. Plus the phase III sleeper is looking rather sharp. You may also be getting more Surfliner coaches headed your way in the next couple of months as some of them are due or almost due for overhauls.

  • that sleeper is lookin nice in Phase III

  • @BosworthJ Yeah and it wont be clean much longer either lol. stations realy coming along nicely. ill have to get some nigh shots from it when its completed.
