Yes. Nearly all other crossings on Finland rely on track circuits.

Isn't there some sort of sensor that determines how fast the train is going, so that the gates come down at the appropriate time, no matter how fast the train is going? I believe such a device is used in the U.S. and Canada, at least on tracks where trains may be traveling at very different speeds.

No itse asiassa vika on siinä, että Simatic testaa valojen jännitteen joka kerran, kun valo syttyy. Ilmeisesti systeemin ideana on säästää polttimoita, mutta käytännön hyötyö tästä ei liene. Simatic muutenkin poikkeaa hieman Miprosta ja Plutosta.

Voi olla että ohjelmantekijä on vähän mokaillut, tehnyt ohjelmasta liian raskaan, koska nuo valot tuolleen vilkkuvat. Kiertoajassa saattaa olla vähän "pientä" vaihtelua.

The gates were down for well over a minute before the train reached the crossing. This was much longer than the time at some other crossings posted here on YouTube, where the delay was only about 10 or 12 seconds.

Yes, that's because that crossing begins alarm right away when any train passes one point there. This crossing is designed to 140 km/h speed from both directions. But especially when heavy freight train leaves from side track to north, there may be four minutes or more that "waiting time".
