The final demo video for the upcoming Chess Club app for Windows Phone 7 devices. This time in landscape (so you can actually see what's on the screen) and audio (so you can hear me blather endlessly about something geeky like chess).

  • Can you make the chess piece explodes when someone loses their piece? That would be really awesome!!

  • @DNATS Mmm... particle effects. Maybe I could put an "gibs level" slider in the Settings page... :)

  • i for the app for the iphone.. is it possible to incorporate the 5 minute pool? that would be incredible.

  • @CharlesGalofre There are two minor problems there. The first is that FICS doesn't support a 5-minute pool (just 5-minute games); I can work around that, but I have to tread carefully because there's this clause that says once a user buys the app he needs to be able to use all the features of it without paying anything else--which means I can't support ICC features that FICS doesn't (since the only way to get ICC features is to have a paid ICC account).

  • @CharlesGalofre The second problem is a little harder. ICC won't let you play in the 5-minute pool unless your ping time is under one minute. Since MS isn't supporting Sockets for the first release, I have to throttle my network I/O severely when you're not actively playing--so while your ping is around 0.2sec in a game, it's about 1.1sec when you're not. And that means ICC might think you don't qualify for the 5-min pool.

  • This is a great looking game, and one I'll be looking up when WP is available, I'm loving the different modes. The customisability is really awesome, I also believe that some of the options could be simpler or more strait forward for example cycling through board styles - maybe showing the available options? Also 3D pieces as well as the icon based styles?

Is there networking options like leaving messages or communicating between players and or spectators?

    Again looking awesome!!

  • @stormysi Thanks. There are a ton of features I want to add in follow-on releases--managing asynchronous messages and providing 3D pieces are two big ones. I'm hip-deep in a second game right now and want to get it finished quickly so I'm holding off on new features for ChessClub at the moment though.
