MoDOT is seeking input on the status of rail travel in Missouri at a series of public meetings. The information will help the department develop a Statewide Rail Plan that will guide the development of both freight and passenger rail service for the next 20 years. Meeting dates and times can be found on MoDOT's website at www.modot.org. In addition, the department will host an online public meeting from Oct. 18 through Nov. 18 at http://www.morail.org/.
Speaking of trains, the number of people choosing to travel by Amtrak continues to grow. In September, 14,150 passengers rode the Amtrak service compared to 13,038 in September 2010 - an increase of 8.5 percent.
And this week is Operation Safe Driver Week. Drivers of both big trucks and passenger vehicles are reminded to respect each other, pay attention and avoid unsafe behavior that could result in a crash.
