Kabul Afghanistan Attacks (15 April 2012)

Attackers in Afghanistan launched a coordinated wave of assaults Sunday, targeting a heavily protected district of the capital that includes embassies and the presidential palace, as well as trying to strike an airbase used by American troops, officials said.

Government facilities, and the American, German and Russian embassies in Kabul were targeted, NATO's International Security Assistance Force said, saying up to seven locations were attacked.

Insurgents also took over a building in front of the Afghan parliament and began firing at it, the Kabul police chief's office said in a statement.

But police headed off some attacks, arresting two potential suicide bombers and their handler, and destroying a vehicle full of explosives, the statement said.

They confessed to being members of the Haqqani network, police said. The insurgent group sometimes allies itself with the Taliban but is a separate movement.

At least 13 insurgents were killed in four different locations around the country, Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Seddiqi said. Fourteen Afghan police officers were injured, he said.

Another 15 would-be attackers were arrested in Kunduz province plotting similar strikes, said Lal Mohammad Ahmadzai, a spokesman for the chief of police for north and northeast Afghanistan.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying tens of suicide bombers were carrying them out in Kabul and three provinces around the country.

The Islamist militia that once ruled Afghanistan said its fighters attacked the parliament building and other sites.

The attackers have suicide vests, RPGs, and hand grenades, the Taliban said.

They said the strikes were retaliation for the killing of 17 Afghan civilians in Kandahar province last month. A U.S. Army staff sergeant, Robert Bales, has been charged over those killings.

What about the 700km of paved road we built in Afghanistan? What about all the schools and red cross facilities we built? What about all the jobs created during this period for Afghani's? Afghan's have sex with the same gender but claim they are not gay. Afghan's hate each other based on what sect of Islam they belong too or what tribe they are from. Afghan's beat women and handicap children and they hate dogs. good, when i was over in afghanistan, i saw them dudes fuckin donkey's... they dont wash their hands after they shit, they are mostly gay but wont admit it and they fill up their dirty boots with water in the shower and dump it on them... these people aren't worth anything, they should all be destroyed, who cares about afghanistan, it is the worst place ever with the worst people ever.
