Before Louis XIV's reign, old soldiers, invalidated out of the service, were in theory, looked after in convent hospitals. In facts, most were reduced to begary.In 1670, the Sun King founded the Invalides on the edge of what was then the Grenelle Plain. The construction of the vast edifice capable of providing quarters for 4000 began in 1671 to plans by Libéral Bruant and was completed only five years after. A dome was added by Jules Hardouin-Mansart in 1706.
Napoleon's tomb: Visconti designed a circular crypt in which to stand the red porphyry sarcophagus upon a base of green granite. Completed in 1861. The emperor 's body is placed in six coffins: tin plate, mahogany, lead (2) ebony, oak.

Sebbene sia stato molte volte a Parigi non ero mai entrato a Les invalides, veramente...imponente!! ma chi è quella bella ragazza che si intravede??
