I used Quartz Composer on Mac OS X 10.6 to create a screen saver that uses the currently playing music in a visualizer. When there isn't any sound playing, it shows the visualization of ambient noise as detected by the internal microphone. The actual file requires a program called SoundFlower in order feed in the music from the computer, but you can always use the microphone.

I've just started using Quartz Composer, I've made some very simple music visualizers, but I've been trying to make a music visualizer background. I've made a moving background but it just ignores the sound part when I set it as a background. Got any ideas?
