Environmentalist Dr. David Suzuki slams the NDP for their criticism of the Liberal carbon tax plan.

"I'm really shocked with the NDP on this because I had thought that the NDP had a very progressive environmental outlook on this and that astounds me."

  • Thank you for the upload. How will this effect middle class and poorer people? Why has this question been riddled? Tax cut, how much? I agree entirely with a 'tap' on pollution, but not at the cost of people with so very little already. What seems like a dollar to the rich, is like a hundred to the poor. This new tax will effect the price of everything else too. This is a capricious matter and will certainly cause allot of undesired situations. The best to you all, peace.

  • If you have a look at the plan (thegreenshift [dot] ca), you'll see that there are tax credits targeted especially to lower and middle-income people, as well as to rural and northern Canadians who don't have much choice when it comes to transportation and heating for instance. And the tax will NOT apply to gasoline.

  • You got that right man, I don't have patience with people who when they hear the word "tax" won't listen any further. The liberals were going to make cuts elsewhere to keep a balance.

  • it's also about people not caring. Far too many are into thier, partying, drinking, and spending money on "toys". No one wants to give money, they want more money. They want to beable to aford more possessions not less. Sad isn't it. I hope we turn the screw soon and get our act toegther.

  • suzuki for prime minister

  • It is a good plan, but too bad that most people percieve it as a environmental plan instead of it being an economical plan which it is. You can blame this on Harper's propaganda, Liberal's ineffective campaign to show that or the ignorance of voters that go to vote without knowing even half of what it's about. Or maybe it's combination of all three.

  • I don't understand why people wouldn't want this(green shift plan), do you understand how much it would actually benefit the citizens of Canada. Yes you would have to pay $10 per tone of pollution that u create and it goes up $10 every year for ten years, BUT!!!!! all of the other taxes would go down, and yes this would be written on paper so they would have to do it.

  • What shocks me the most is that most people havent read the liberal green shift plan, the plan states that people would have to pay 10$ per tone of pollution and every year it goes up by 10$, BUT other taxes go down, this may not affect citizens because it is a lot easier for people to reduce the pollution that they create, but this will cost a lot to big pollution contributers WHICH IS A GOOD THING

  • Well they said that climate might cool very slightly in the next 10 years. This'll be just what all these polluters and deniers need. So we'll drag our feet for another 10 years or more. Then when the heat comes back, we'll be like, "WTF". Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the planet will cool and global warming is hysteria. However, I find it hard to believe that I should believe a polluter over a scientist.

  • I agree man too bad the elections over

  • /agree. YAY Intelligent Canada!

  • The idea is to have non taxable incomes, investments and profits and TAX POLLUTION to pay the tax bill. It will also create SUSTAINABLE industries (JOBS) and provide a well rounded and fair society.
