That's a steam engine piston cylinder.

I've seen this motor first hand at one of the speaker building events held by Pacific Northwest Audio Society. I begged to jerry-rig some diaphragm and fire it up but the best I got was a demo of excursion with a little 9v battery. It didn't need a surround so no basket was needed. Apparently all that's needed for a cone is a piece of plywood and it moves *allot* of air. I miss Adire Audio, I always wanted to pick up their kit using the Eminence coax horn setup.

add the cone ets = SLAPPEDGE

This was really just an experimental creation from Dan Wiggins. Just to see if they could do it. I think I remember him mentioning it could easily push a 48"x48" diaphragm. Can anyone even fathom that? A four foot by four foot diaphragm moving 6" each way 50 times a second?

Woha, sorry for such a late reply...
I'm just a fan of Adire Audio, I found the video a long time ago. I didn't have any part in its creation. They did produce these viz special order. Last time I talked to someone at Adire was years ago, not sure if they are still around.
