good to see you...

History is soaked in blood and gunpowder. I had uncles who were at Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. They never talked about it either. Whether war is considered just or unjust (as if it could be just), it is horror and a waste. When will they ever learn. Oh when will they ever learn.

Growing up my dad had a friend who was a Vet, I remember people talking about him saying he wasn't the same man when he returned, he was nervous and quiet. Dad told me he only spoke about the war to him once, when he had a lot to drink & said his best friends brains were all over his face, we never mentioned it again.

WOW !

Welcome back. None of the Viet Nam vets I've known over the years have wanted to say much beyond that they had been there. The war is still going on within them.

I posted a vlog recently. Nothing special. just me yammering but I was musing about how little we seem to have progressed as a civilization. We still take clubs (albeit bigger and more effective clubs) and beat each other over the head for various and sundry reasons. I wonder if we'll ever get to the point where we are just a little more enlightened about human life value and human toil?

It's frightening to know that events so long ago can still have such a profound effect on those who experienced them.
So many war vets, from any war, have that same problem. Such a pity.

It is wonderful to see you,
and I'm glad you are safely home! ~Heidi

I also have a friend who works in my local supermarket he was in the VNW and he will not say anything more about it than that......
My Father was in Vietnam and actually received a purple heart. He also will not talk about it...I have been told by my Mother (when she was living) that he has terrible dreams and sweats during these dreams...to the point they would have to change the sheets. I have never asked my Father about it and probably never will.

A powerful story, and all very real, Margaret. I was not sent to Vietnam ONLY because I was a young engineer involved in designing the weapons they used. It's a sickening memory of my life. I had friends who went and didn't come back; I had friends who went and came back broken, mangled remnants of themselves. The lucky ones came back like the man you encountered.
And we're doing it again.....
