*Ranfurly's 'Un-named Street' now **Hanrahan Lane**! *

*Official Opening a wonderful day!*

This Sunday (30^th March 2008) at 10.30am was the official opening of
Ranfurly's un-named street.
After Burn volunteer announcer, Alistair Watt noticed one the street
which provides a 'short-cut' from Charlemont Streets East & West
(running between Maniototo Paint & Hardware and McLarens Transport) -- it
was decided to run a competition where listeners could suggest a name
for the street.

The name chosen by the Maniototo Community Board was Hanrahan Lane,
nominated by locals Michael Dowling and Francie Morrow. Mike is Mosey
Hanrahan's grandson.

The new street name is historically linked to an original Maniototo
gentleman & store owner.

Mosey was born at St Bathans in 1872 and was known as a barber,
tobacconist, newsagent and as an intregal part of Ranfurly's initial
growth.
His store occupied at one time the now E-Central Café.

Over 60 family members from Auckland, Palmerston North, Marlborough,
Ashburton, Invercargill, Dunedin & Christchurch were blown away with the
effort put in by the Burn team.

The eldest surviving member, Daphne and the youngest, Annie Mae 'cut the
ribbon' with public following Maniototo Highland Pipe band members down
the street for the winners of the competition, Michael and Francie to
unveil the name, new signs and receive their 'prizes'. They were each
donated $100 worth of product by McLarens & Maniototo Paint & Hardware.
Maniototo Community Board Chairman, Richard Smith spoke, followed by
many emotional stories and memories from family members.

Opening of the historical display, memorabilia, a lolly scramble and a
short-back 'n' sides display in Moseys old barber chair by Melissa Inder
followed. Family members were then piped down to the 'ol shop (E-Central
Café) for lunch.
