The lion and the unicorn were fighting for the crown The lion beat the unicorn all around the town. Some gave them white bread, and some gave them brown; Some gave them plum cake and drummed them out of town.
Like many nursery rhymes, they pack a lot of meaning. Some examples: This was apparently about the fights for the crown between England (lion) and scotland (unicorn). They ended up at Culloden where the "lion beat the unicorn all around the town". And they got Bonnie Prince Charlie "out of town" (Scotland) for his own safety.
This is terrible D:
The first time i read the rhyme i thought of a blody battle and a very serious rhyme which express more emotions, not this crap :(

Ireland was a seperate Crown, it never had it's own full Monarch. King Henry VIII was proclaimed King of Ireland when he was King of England.
But England and Scotland had their seperate Monarchs (Lion and the Unicorn) untill 1603 when King James became King of "Britain".

The original nursey rhyme has only one verse.
