As high-stakes deficit talks resumed Tuesday at the White House, Sen. Bernie Sanders prodded President Barack Obama to keep his 2008 campaign promise not to cut Social Security. "If you told the American people you're not going to cut Social Security, then don't cut Social Security. Keep your word," Sanders said in a Senate floor speech.

  • I could listen to Senator Sanders talk all day. His message speaks right to the heart of what matters most to the average working person.

  • It's genuinely baffling to me how doing anything financially to the DoD, big business, and the wealthiest 5% is completely out of the question but we can torpedo social programs that are established and have been relied upon since FDR's time in office. This is why there is such an ideological divide between the "haves" and the "have nots." God bless America but this is a joke.

  • Bernie for President, goddammit!

  • Thank you Bernie!

  • @nikkinew123: I don't think Obama is perfect. If you're talking about the debt ceiling grand bargain, I don't know what he was doing. It may all be a chess game. It could be he knew they (the Tea Party) wouldn't accept his offer anyway and it was all for appearances (just like the Boehner bill, up all night working on it when they knew the Senate would never accept it). I'm not sure what anyone's doing.

  • @judyleasugar97 ~I'm all for closing loopholes on things like Yacht! I just don't believe that Obama is a very good negotiator and what he calls shared sacrifice I call bullshit. He was asking for the middle class, poor and senior to give 80%, while the rich give only 20%. He even offered up social security. He pissed me off, with that one. But the republicans didn't take it!

  • I hope he runs as an Independent for 2012. I have had enough with Obama, (but still better than a republican.)

  • Thank god for Bernie Sanders, god bless this guy

  • You do outstanding work for us, Senator Sanders. Thanks.

  • The only decent person out of 100 senators is not a Republican or a Democrat - he's a Socialist.

As my sensei said once: "I used to be a centrist. Since then, the country changed so much that now I'm considered an extreme leftist".
