Jeremy Borash went to Styles' grandmother's house in Gainesville, Georgia; in a series of comedic appearances, Styles locked himself in a room and finally promised that he would choose a side at Final Resolution. At Final Resolution, he turned on Christian Cage by siding with Kurt Angle after hitting Cage with a springboard forearm strike. The next week on iMPACT!, Styles was crowned the "Prince of Phenomenal" by Angle, which has since been incorporated into his ring introductions.

On an edition of TNA iMPACT! AJ Styles was Kayfabe married to Karen Angle. The next several weeks showed videos of Karen Angle and AJ Styles on their honeymoon, talking, getting close, and actually acting like a married couple. The following week, Styles came to Karen's rescue when she hit her head (she was pushed by Kurt Angle when she came out to check on him). The next week when the Angle Alliance was having a meeting, Kurt was briefing the members on their matches that night. The Angle Alliance lost in their match against Christian Cage, Samoa Joe, and Kevin Nash. J.B. (Jeremy Borash) said that Karen had a huge bombshell to drop. Karen's bombshell was that she wanted a separation from Kurt. Styles and Tomko would later lose the TNA World tag Team titles to Kaz and Super Eric. The match was supposed to be between Kaz and Eric Young as challengers, but Super Eric entered the match (Young and Super Eric are the same person). Styles and Tomko would complain to Jim Cornette about this. Super Eric refused to admit that he was really Eric Young. So Kaz and Super Eric were stripped of the titles. Ironically, AJ solicited the help of Super Eric to be his partner when Tomko was (kayfabe) injured in a tour of the Orient in the tournament for the vacant tag team championships, though the two lost in the semifinals to the Latin American Xchange. Since then, AJ has shown signs of turning face again by defending the honor of Karen Angle against husband Kurt.
