New Italian research shows having as little as one alcoholic drink within six hours of driving can increase your risk of a traffic accident by more than two-fold. Cleveland Clinic dieticians explains how alcohol acts as a depressant of the central nervous system. As a result, when someone has alcohol in their system, reaction time may be slower and they may not be processing thoughts as quickly or sharply than if they didn't have any alcohol in their bloodstream.
