"The auto plant in Mahwah" was a real place. It was a Ford Motor Company assembly plant in Mahwah, New Jersey that opened in 1953 and closed in 1980.

The Bosses best album...PERIOD

@MrBirchmoor33 And it sounds like a beautiful Martin guitar throughout the whole record, too.

tweedlededeedee - speak for yourself. i saw springsteen three times in the late 70's and once in 84. i have never seen him since. once he made the "nebraska" album , for me it was over. bruce is about the futility of being the underdog and his fame as a rocker contrasted with his loneliness and longing for those pissed on by the "meanness in this world".

So great song

After seeing him a few times and having most of his albums, the album version of this song always takes me from surprise. It's so quiet compared to his live versions, so laid back, and so raw. It's clear to see how he takes this song and amplifies it up to the proportions you see on stage.

it's sad to me that no one knows this side of the boss..

Moose, I agree with you re: this Nebraska album.Great stuff - we've the same taste as regards 'The Boss'!

I'd say this album, Darkness on the Edge of Town, and Born to Run are the three best sets of songwriting he's ever done (in no particular order). Born to Run's more anthemic, Darkness is more raw and angry, but Nebraska is probably his best storytelling. This song, Atlantic City, Nebraska, Reason to Believe, My Father's House, Highway Patrolman...there really isn't a bad song on the album.
Powerful!

I guess you like it. I think "powerful" is the right word to discribe it. Do you know the whole "Nebraska" album?
