Sorry because of my comments before, it was not Rubens but exhibition at Amsterdam National Gallery was Rembrandt/Caravaggio which went afterwards to England and Italy. For the first time all his paintings were collected in a single place. This film is superb and also Peter Robb biographical book of M.

I was shocked by this great film of Caravaggio's life when I saw it five years ago! I looked after more information on him but many biographies are misleading, until I came to read some experts qualified reseraching I found this movie was very accurate to the "real" artist M was. In 2005 I attended exhibition Caravaggio/Rubens in Holland and realized how undervalued he was through the years. I'm not lying when I feel bewitched to this masterpiece, but I have to watch it in the proper mood!

Thanks!!!
You have done a good thing here. So much of Mens lives are wrapped up on meaningless and pointless ends. Never amounting to anything. Caravaggios obsession gave us art that outlived his obsessions.

Jarman does something very tender and unexpected with Lena's death. Many films that deal with homosexuality ignore the possiblities deep, meaningful relationships between the genders. Caravaggio is clearly deeply attached to Lena, and torn by his love/grief for her and his love for Ranuccio. OMG! Dimension! Yea!
