A Hayabusa races a Harley in this awesome footage. This is an 1/8 mile drag in Laughlin and was open to amateur riders. Amazing difference in acceleration, the Harley had many high performance mods done to it. It's quite a mis-matched race!
@themaxrider the difference between the 440 and the hemi is that the 440 doesnt have hemi heads. hemi headed engines have never been high revving engines. you could probably wiki that shit. the highest revving hemi engine of that time was a specially designed dohc hemi that got to a redline of 7000. it was too heavy though. you are the one without a clue, you probably couldnt even tell me why a hemi gives more power, since you assume something as dumb as that.
@themaxrider cant wait for the motus aint nothing like a mini ls7 based v4. its called american pushrod.... and talk about harley not having torque?... it has more than a busa.....
@themaxrider the fastest cars of that era were the ones with the torque (hemi, ls6, buick 455, six pack, etc.) your mentally ill if you think a small block will take a big. thats like saying a nova 350 is gonna beat yenko. and the cadi v8 was rated at 400hp for that year. thats pleanty of top end power. just a heavy car. the only high reving v8 of the time that was just as fast was the judge (my favorite go figure), this was because it was a lighter car, with a small block+long stroke.
@wideglide0003 For the price tag, and the FACT that harley has been making these same bikes for virtually ever, they should NEVER be second to any other comparable bike! AND they SHOULDN'T be number one in recalls and bulletins either! And yet they are! My point is that harley is way below the standards of where they should be, PERIOD! There is so much more to be had for the money spent! It's that simple!
@themaxrider I get pretty much every magazine, and read them usually a couple times front to back. long winters here. Triumph thunderbird usually comes out on top, real nice bike, thats my fav after some of the HDs. Alot of times the HDs do come out on top of the others. Their not always last.
@1911harbinger An engine is nothing more then a glorified air pump. Being an out-dated design, the harley engine has a lot of weight rotating, along with a long rod for leverage on the crankshaft. This gives the engine the initial rotating torque, but resists being rotated faster, as the design cannot pump air fast enough to increase it's speed! Take an inline with multi-valves and large ports, it has the best of both worlds! Enough rotating mass for torque, and able to breath!
@1911harbinger If you want extreme torque and want to compare it in car engines, go back to Cadillac 500cid. It had 550 lbs of torque at 2800 Rpm. Problem is, the engine didn't rev much, but it had gobs of low end torque. Smaller engines with much less torque would kill it in races because it didn't have adequate ability to rev up! Torque was good for moving the heavy car it came in, but it wasn't a fast engine by any means! Get your head on straight and figure this out!
@1911harbinger You are so far off on the 426 Hemi example that it pains me to type this! I just built one of those two friggin weeks ago! I have a 440 in here out of a 68' Charger right now! The difference between the 440 is the Hemi has heads and a stroke that allow for the engine to rev like hell compared to the 440, which is larger but nothing like the 426! Pull your head out and take a breath, you haven't a clue wtf you are talking about!
