Grassroots women leaders from 17 countries gathered in Cebu City, Philippines from October 22 to 27, 2008 for the Asian Grassroots Women's International Academy under the theme, Empowering Grassroots Women to Build Resilient Communities. The activity aimed to develop a framework on community resilience that is derived from and relevant to grassroots women's experiences. This conference was organized by the Huairou Commission, a coalition of seven regional and international networks that focuses on the living and working condition of women from the poor communities around the world, in partnership with Lihok Pilipina Foundation, Inc., Bantay Banay and the Cebu City Government through the Cebu City Women's and Family Affairs Commission.
