Whilst playing an old tape I found this short clip of WImbledon FC from a sport roundup (Don't know what channel this was shown on) . As a Wimbledon and now AFC Wimbledon supporter since 1961 its always interesting to look back at the Dons when they were playing in the then First Division. Always maligned for playing the long ball game it was an extremely effective tactic (as well as entertaining) and bamboozled many of the prima donners of the First Division for many a season. AFC Wimbledon are now on their way back into league football and hopefully will pass the infamous MK Dons going the other way. One day in the not too distant future we will play them and old scores will be settled once and for all. I have to thank my dear old dad for sending me tapes of this sort of material over the years (1981-1998) until he passed away in late 2000.

  • Couldn't agree more unfortunately Sam Hamman had other ideas namely pocketing the proceeds of the sale of Plough Lane for redevelopment. Perhaps AFC WImbledon will one day return to the area they'll never need more than a 10,000 seater just like Wimbledon FC

    thanks for watching

  • I can't believe Man Utd were 3rd and ending up finishing 11th OH WELL LOL!!!! Good Old Days

  • @noradosmith

    Fair point.

  • @supahdupahguy81 QPR are getting 16,000, Wigan not much more. Rather have 6000 with a good atmosphere than 12000 in a half empty ground

  • thanks for sharing!

  • 6,000 for a top flight game :/

  • @embeleshow

Would have been very difficult to just bolt seats into Plough Lane without a total rebuild as the ground only held about 10/11,000 as it was with 90% terracing.....capacity would have been severely reduced & although they had a poor attendance here, games vs the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, etc would regularly be sell-outs......i'm guessing they didn't wanna miss out on those paydays, so going to nearby Selhurst which held 30,000 made sense at the time...

  • nice one mate ,

  • my first ever Dons match

  • my first ever Wimbledon match. hooked after that
