How to deal with interpreted phone calls is training that is aimed at the following people: Anyone working as a Communication Support Worker, Interpreters at JTI and TI levels but is open to all Interpreters that just want to practice these skills further.
This course was initially devised to support those people that are new to communicating and translating telephone calls within office environments. However, it provides all with an opportunity for all to practice such skills within a safe environment.
Who will be there on the day? A Deaf trainer working in partnership with an Interpreter trainer. These training days will cover a variety of elements, such as:
Access to Work and how this links directly to office interpreting.
A brief overview of how to work with interpreters correctly for those that would like this information
Then finally the topic itself and dealing with interpreted phone calls themselves
These days will be lots of fun, be innovative and proactive with interactive discussions throughout. Included in the days are video clips (made by a Deaf professional) that shall be used to reinforce topics on the day itself.
Also, the Deaf trainer will be modifying language used to represent Deaf people from a variety of backgrounds, from grass-roots people all the way through to high level professionals. Working in tandem to this is the other trainer (BSL Interpreter) will be the voice of the hearing people on the other end of the phone again there will be a variation of characters from a rude line manager to an automated answering machine.
Looking at how to deal with these topics will be a challenge but we shall ensure that it is enjoyable with everyone working together.
