You can learn how to powder coat parts at home. It is a very easy process and once you learn how to do it you will want to coat everything. There are some drawbacks...if the powder coat gets chipped it is almost impossible to fix without being noticed. Also, it is not impervious to chemicals so it can be dissolved. It's not a good idea to coat parts where gasoline may drip or collect. I've had no problem coating master cylinders but you will need to experiment.

  • I have a 2 V45 1982 Magna Bikes I,m restoring the forks need to be redone and other parts that are chrome parts what would you recommend to redo this parts. Will Power coating have the same look as chrome

  • No. Chrome powder coat looks good, but not as good as a polished electro-plating precess. There are 2 kinds of chrome, decorative and triple plated. Decorative is cheaper. You can get the same results with polished nickle plating. Watch my video about the Cobra engine build Part 1. I nickle plated and polished some bolts and they look great. Could be an option for you.

  • Nice job... how much $ do have have invested (gun, oven)?... regular kitchen oven or application specific oven? And how'd you get the manifold off the stool without bumping the powder? Must have strong fingertips!

  • I have about $200 in the gun, got the oven for free, and about $1,500 in powders. I got the oven from a relative who was getting a new one. Just a regular electric oven is fine. It was easy to pick up the manifold because it was not coated on the bottom. Picked it up like a pizza and slid it in the oven.

  • im interested in powder coating and all i need to know is can i use a basic electric house oven?

  • Yes you can. As long as it has good temperature control it will work fine. You can't use your regular house oven because gases emitted during the process are not good for you if you use the same oven to cook food.
