I used hypnosis while having Bryson. He was my 3rd baby and 2nd VBAC. I wanted a natural childbirth, but was nervous about the pain. I used Hypnobabies www.hypnobabies.com and had a completely un-medicated AND comfortable birth. It was so empowering.
For those who want to see some footage of me pushing you can see it here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxtlDrnPe4U
Visit www.ican-online.org for more information on VBACs.

  • I am having such a hard time believe that hypno birthing works because every time I watch one of these videos, the mother turns off the video during major transition and pushing time. It just makes me think that the mother was not as calm as she says she was. I even saw a video of a woman who said she was going to have an orgasmic birth. That was 2 years ago, and I still have not seen a video of that birth or feedback from the mother regarding that birth. I want to believe, but I need to see.

  • @nawmmbr I am in transition in the section that looks kind of green (night vision on video camera) I was going from 8 to 10 cm there. My DH didn't want me to include pushing, as it was mostly crotch shots. However I did find some clips that were ok and put them in a video entitled Mother Directed Pushing in Hospital. I also have quite a few videos on my Enjoy Birth You Tube Channel showing mom in transition. You can also read over 250 stories at Pregnancy Birth and Babies

  • @EnjoyBirth Funny you state your DH "didn't want me to include pushing, as it was mostly crotch shots", but as you chose to birth in this way and video tape, shouldn't the shots, too, have been your choice? I'm just sayin'. Thanks for the info, but I am not interested in "crotch shots". What I am interested in is witnessing the mother's temperament during the push and actual delivery.

  • @nawmmbr I was birthing, not filming so he chose what to film, not me. I was fine not sharing those segments with the whole world. So I edited as I said. However check out those other videos and there are some of the moms pushing and you can see the moms temperament during transformation and pushing.

  • Thanks for sharing this video! Was this at a hospital? Do you mind me asking if you rejected an IV and fetal monitoring? I'm 31 weeks & hoping for a VBAC and will be doing hypnobirthing. I'm just nervous about being confined by all the wires & IV lines and am wondering if the hospital will make a fuss over me rejecting them unless absolutely necessary.

  • @hekaersa I had a saline lock instead of an IV. I did have continuous fetal monitoring, but they had telemetric monitoring, so I could walk the halls. Each hospital has their own rules about these things. You can always say no, but it may be a fight.

  • No, it wouldnt have been SO awful if I had used pain relief. But I didnt need or want it, so why use it if I didnt need it?

I am not against pain relief, I used it with much joy in my first 2 births, but it was even more awesome not to want or need it with Brysons birth.

"'ll bet the next time you have a root canal you won't be opting for hypnosis, but all the narcotics you can get your hands on."

AHHH, what a great lead into my video. Search Dental Surgery and Birth.

  • It is always fabulous to see hypnosis during birth in action, but why do US women tolerate being made to birth on their backs when medically this is the worse position?

  • Very inspirational! You helped me with both facing my first VBAC birth and my first hypnobirth. Thank you so much for sharing this <3

  • @nawmmbr In control, not in control - anyway, I found about 5 women who were NOT using "hypno-birthing", as in many African countries, that is not taught. These women were merely told what to expect and told to just let their pain wash over them and to picture themselves opening for the baby. They didn't use the psuedo-jargon, rather just understood and expected what was happening, knowing they were in safe hands and they gave birth without "purple pushing" as it's called here.

  • I am very excited to begin my classes next month. I am still a little skeptic, and it is expereinces such as yours that make me understand the process more. Thank you for posting

  • @mynaturalchildbirth If I do have another baby, I am planning a homebirth. I even know which midwife I want to use. :)
