Ah, Master Grumiaux! I remember 20 years ago or so when i was listening to radio and being ready with a tape in the tape recorder so i can record the rare renditions such as this one. Man was i happy when i finally got this one. Amazing stuff!! And the way Paganini captured the italian bel canto and adapted it for violin is awesome. So much music in the technical stuff. A pleasure to play it anytime :)

I would love to hear Sarah Chang do this one. To me this is concerto is the most Paganini-ish of all the concertos he wrote. And..Wieniaswski No.1!!

I am pretty new to classical music, but within this short time that I have been listening to some, I am becoming a classical music junkie. The first set of CD's I bought was a box set by different artist and one of the CD's was performances by Arthur Grumiaux. I instantly loved the sound of the music he played. His playing is distinct (in my opinion). I love his rendition of Franz Schubert's SERENADE and Pablo Sarasate's ZIGEUNERWEISEN. I'll surely search for more of his recordings.

@liveandmore That's amazing!

@ditulin So did I. In fact, I still have the record!

Quite a bit of Ashkenazi and East and Central European themes into the piece; somehow, think.

Maravillosa interpretación y reflejo del espíritu de Paganini.

I grew up with this. What a beautifully crisp, clean performance!

28:05 flute plays thema :D
This concerto is rarely played & often overlooked in terms of greatness. With the 1st Paganini concerto having been over-played, the 4th is a refreshing change. I only wish it were played more. It reflects Italian & Sicilian folk music. Its 2nd movement reminds me of the folk music in Godfather II, when Michael is getting married in Sicily.
Gruiaux has always been a favorite of mine. He plays with distinction, never getting carried away with emotion. I only wish Eugene Fodor had recorded it.
