I feel like an important aspect of Kyudo is not whether one hits or misses the target, but the spirituality behind the movement and the meditative process. I could be incorrect, though, as I know little of the art. Perhaps it is extremely important to not miss.

This clip uses my music from my Yellow Bell CD 'Svadharma' originally over 4 minutes long. I also have a CD from the film's music called 'The Empty Mind'. This piece is called "Five". You can find me on FB at Richard Brookens / Yellow Bell Music or on my site at yellowbellmusic.

I'd be awesome at this. I've been told since childhood that I have a PERFECTLY empty mind.

How do you know he missed his target? The 'target' doesn't always mean bullseye. If he hit exactly where he was looking, then he was on target. Don't get so distracted by a bit of paper.

"Don't you think it is a little sad to spend your entire life practicing kyudo and have nothing more to show for it than the ability to shoot an arrow into a piece of paper?"

"Western bows are designed for accuracy. If you miss the mark it is possible to adjust the sight or different parts of the bow to improve your shooting. But kyudo is different. if we miss the mark in kyudo we must make adjustments in ourselves—our mind and our body."
