This is an extraordinary film. Vastly underated. I agree the trailer is rubbish and doesn't do it justice. Christina Ricci was sublime. One of the best child actresses I've ever seen.

@dmyhre16 That's a good call, actually. I suppose both belong to the broad category of "suburban angst" films. You could also include "Little Children" and "Revolutionary Road". I have a special fondness for "The Ice Storm" because it really does capture the feel of the 1973--the tackiness, the narcissism, the dysfunctional families, waterbeds, Watergate, and the pervasive sense of nihilism (probably the nadir of post-1960's cynicism). It was a bizarre time to be growing up.
