Max the bobcat kitten was at the center of a months-long legal battle that touched off after a Rhode Island vet seized him from someone who bought him from a backyard breeder... It is illegal to have bobcats as pets in Rhode Island. The cat's owner went to court to get the cat back, but the state won. Now Max will live at Big Cat Rescue for the rest of his life!

We're so glad we could step in and offer Max a permanent home, if you want to help put an end to the trade in wild animals as so called "pets" please visit this site to help give them a voice: http://bigcatrescue.org/get-involved/roar

  • are bobcats and lynx the same thing?

    or is there a difference?

  • @MrKornDawgz They are different species, however they look very similar, the best way to tell them apart is their tails. Bobcats have a black tip on top, but the lynx have a black tip all the way around.

  • i think it was down right mean to remove this cat from its owner. the one it bonded with since it was a baby. stupid vet should stay out of other peoples business

  • @datura1983 We RESCUE these cats from life in backyard cages, homes and fur farms. We then provide them with a permanent home for the rest of their lives, many people after a few years decide they no longer want their "pet" bobcat or situations change and they can no longer keep them

  • @BigCatRescue The bottom line is, they are wild animals and deserve so much better, how ultimate goal is to put ourselves out of "business" we wish we didn't have to exist, but we do. We want to end the private possession of these animals so we can stop the suffering altogether.

  • why can't he be released into the wild?

  • @MrLiudolf Max associates people with food, he has no fear of people, he has no hunting skills, he would stray into residential areas and no doubt be deemed a nuisance animal and be shot.

  • @name2users True all cats look cute when they are younger but they soon grow into the large, dangerous predators they are. They will always have their wild instinct no matter what you do to "domesticate" them. Also when someone purchases a bobcat or tiger or any species of wild cat they are fueling the trade in these animals, which means backyard breeders will continue to breed them for the pet trade and to be harvested for their body parts.

  • Stimulation?

A flyrod and a featherball on sissel twine might keep him occupied for awhile.

  • wait one more thing why do bobcats have short tails

  • were did you find max

  • @TronixGuy93 "He wont mind if I just stick my finger in there will he"?

  • Yeah, Airport security wears their underwear a bit too hight and tight after the false flag attacks of 9-11. They also often recruit personnel with very low IQ's I've noticed. I can see it all now: "Why yes we need to make sure you haven't smuggled some c4 in the cats butt to blow up the airport with. Dur Dur Dur...".

  • That sure looks like one happy cat.

  • Sorry you're getting so many negative comments. People seem to have a hard time understanding the difference between domestic cats that have been pets for thousands of years, and wild animals. Even though they look, sound, and may act like pets(if they've been raised in captivity), they are still very different from our little housecats. Even if their enclosures are smaller than people would like, these videos show you going out of your way to provide a rich environment.

    Keep up the good work!

  • Why is the illegal trade in wild animals, such as cats, so prolific in the USA? Is it because of lack of legal intervention? In Australia it is obviously not a big problem (being an island continent and having no native cats here).
