I wonder that you remain so peppy and upbeat. I think it is very good that you do. But I would instead feel a lot of regret and feel cheated. All your youth spent in that cult. Glad you can be upbeat and look forward.
P.s. Hubbard was a screwup. My dad was a young Naval officer in WW2 in the Pacific and also in SF fandom. Hubbard was bad news. Mediocre author and worse naval officer.

@DRDNIBOY I'm 47 years old I have dealt with and have been exposed to the Moonies, Buddhist, Wiccans,Hippies Cults,Krishnahs, Satanist and Scientology at sometime in my life, and the only place I felt safe was in the loving arms of
Jesus Christ, and no one had to force me or control me. It was of my own free will. I hope for the best for those who do get deceived. Could I have been a victim when I was younger, who knows? but thank God it never happened.

@benthemiester I know what you mean but their techniques are based in mind control that even people like you would still be influenced by scientology. These are proven mind control techniques. You should look up videos on people who went inside and filmed sessions secretly. They really break you down emotionally. HARDCORE.

What a story you have and thank you for telling it. BTW, you wouldn't know all this by watching you now. I love your candor and humor and strength that you continually display. Good music choices too!

@AgentxAnonymous Like I said before I wasn't trying to be judgmental but Charles Manson isn't what u would call the most stable mindes person, but interesting comment. My opinion is that there are certain types of people who are susceptible to this. Again I'm not trying to put myself above others & I'm sure we have all learned from life's lessons & have become smarter. I have plenty of weaknesses, we all do, but this is not one of them. I have always been my own worst enemy, I don't need help.

@benthemiester Even Charles Manson got scammed by $cientology. Lurk more.

It must be extraordinarily difficult to flatten all the crap that occurred in the last 30 years.
I have a question. There is the phenomenon of COS speak and the very controlled facial expressions ( the later i guess is brought about through e-metering ). It seems that people who leave eventually have ths weaken in them as the control wears off. Did you and/or others notice the weakening of this and how long did it take for you?

@SilverArse I think the main people you are speaking of are those "in" the Sea Org in Scientology. Many of them are SO pressured, they don't have time to smile, and also it's very much considered "Ethic presence" to look as they do, which is utter BS. No matter what, I refused to look like that, even when "in" and often asked Scientology Executives to ask them to smile and be friendly when on the street, at least. They never did. You can lead a horse to water.....:)

This is so for foreign to me. I wouldn't even know how to let someone control my life even if I wanted them to. Scientology would never want a person like me even if I was a Billionaire.

@benthemiester As I tell people all the time, as my Dad used to say to me, "Tory, Monday morning quarterbacks are a dime a dozen". Of course you wouldn't---neither would I. Please study mind control and learn more about it--as until you fully understand it, which you do not by your very response, you *can* get suckered "in".
This was told to me by academic expert Professionals who study Cults. In their words: "Literally anyone can get caught, IF they don't understand cults". My best,
T
