Harlem Indian asks 2 respected elder statesmen of Indian country about the enrollment issue. this is only part of a longer interview. I hope the dialogue continues.....
This is a tough subject, the whites don't care and most natives don't either,as long as we have our cards. But also this is coming from a different prospective than i've heard before, usually it's some white wannabe crying about not being recognized as a native. But Natives born on the wrong side of whom their father or mother was is really sad.
to advert the Diminish of what remaining tribal Sovereignty we have, we must seriously consider the unification an inter-tribal force needed to help all tribes preserve what sovereignty is remaining, and to continue to progress towards our collective Tribal Destinies which is to fully Emancipate from the BIA, and Congress, according to Supreme court Justice James Marshall. It is our Destiny to become Independent, rather than continue being a domestic Dependent Sovereign Entity
This is some fine work Robert BRAVO! No one wants to address these issues but the Tribes will not be complete in spirit until they do. I want to thank the Elders who took their time to speak with you. Their honesty is very much respected by many. Please ask them for more of their time to explain why the Tribes rely on bloodquantum when they know the BIA was never accurate or consistant in their duty and many have been deneyed membership based on the erroneous work of the BIA.BloodquantumsRracist
BIA is a bad entity mostly, before the dominant cultures government we never knew what a blood quantum was, wether our members were mixed or not had nothing to do with that NDN being a part of our Nation, but now it is different,NDN country enrollment needs to be fixed!!
Who is Ndn?, we know who is but why are so many of us not enrolled-it is a subversive side of termination, also, in my tribe we even have some non-indians that were enrolled back in the 70's?, it is a messed up system!

the statement right at the end was incredibly accurate - "treaties were the first limitation on sovereignty"

A nation is not the same as a tribe or a band.
