@sashaalx03 most of it comes from the turbo ... but not all of it ... diesel engines are naturally torquier than equivalent petrol because they deliver the same power at lower rpms

I drive a little bit older passat (b5 2000 1.9tdi)

it goes 4 liters/100km. I use it as my work car, so i count every liter. turbo works fine.

@baigaiz112 That thing doesn't get 4l/100 kmh unless you drive in 6th gear at 90 Km/h and in that case the money you save on fuel you will spend on your turbo because it failed, and on DPF, and maybe some new injectors while we are at it because the 2.0 TDi engine isn't a monument of reliability. Not mentioning the initial difference in price and the fact that diesel engines are more expensive to maintain. And for the record, i had a diesel, 2.5 V6 passat and i got about 7 litres from it, not 4l

i prefer diesel. 4l/100km. In big car, with loads of extras.
