Michael Schwass was injured at age 16 in the run for the Illinois High School State hockey championship. An illegal check resulted in his crashing into the end boards, rendering him quadriplegic. While his team went on to capture the title, Michael went on to achieve other victories, becoming the first chronic quadriplegic ever to walk again without the aid of braces. Continually beating the odds, Michael, now 33 years into his life as a "wheeler" continues to inspire and motivate others as a speaker and life coach. • Oh Eric, I am so sorry to tell you, but Mike passed away in September 2010. I seem to be having trouble posting the link for you here to get you more information but if you google his name and mine (laura young) you will get to my blog. Look in the categories for his name and you can get more information and many stories also. You can also email through the blog if you would like.

    Take care, Eric,

    Laura

  • Thanks for making a video- I'm reading this book for a class and am moved and inspired. There's a lesson for any situation I think in the way that Michael Schwass created the ability to move his limbs through alternative means when the regular pathways for brain messages weren't available. Clearly there are solutions that can be created for other tough dilemmas-thinking outside the box is crucial sometimes. Thanks for this wonderful book!

  • Thank you so much for your comment. Michael truly is an exceptional man with so much hard won wisdom. I'm glad you are getting so much out of his book. You are absolutely right, there is something in there for everyone.
