Final Fantasy XIV (DirectX Tech Demo 2005)

**READ ME for history of this tech demo**

2005: Square-Enix shown this tech demo May 2005 at E3. At the time they said it was just a technical demonstration using either DX10/X360 generation hardware to see what limits they could push.

2006 (March): Nine months later at the FFXI Fan Festival 2006, FFXI developers shown pics of this tech demo and revealed this was in fact development of the new MMORPG. They did not confirm if the footage was in fact just experimentation or early development.

2006 (Summer): To counter a rumor published in a Japanese magazine that this was the sequel to FFXI, Square-Enix issued an official press release on their website that this is NOT a sequel to Final Fantasy XI.

2007 (April): Rumor hits the internet that someone affliated with Square-Enix leaked info at GDC 2007 that this was a Dragon Quest MMO in alpha stage development and may or may not be this title. Highly unlikely.

2007 (November): At the 2007 FFXI Fan Festival when asked on the current status of the new MMO project they stated...

"As you might already know, members from the current FFXI team are working on a next generation MMO, but it still hasn't been decided whether that's going to be a game in the FF series, a continuation, or a totally new game. We are working on it, but it hasn't been decided that far yet."

2008: Rumor articles surfaced in December that this new MMO will be officially announced at E3 09.

2009: During E3 09 Sony Press Conference this title was announced as Final Fantasy XIV

2010 June: As of presently this month the Xbox 360 version is currently not in development per interview (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3180089).

I seriously think Square Enix should make a fukin team park called Final Fantasy.. and place all the awesome locations in the ff series in the theme park :D. everyone from the world will definitely visit it :)

well and lets see.. all the regions, especially gridania, will be redesigned till 3. quarter of 2012 .

New graphics engine also... and new FFXIV client. they rework FFXIV.

I played FFXlV on the PC and it's LAME. Worse MMO EVER.

@Scott97169 - I suppose that's fair enough - I've never played this game, and never will because I don't like MMOs - but I REFUSE to believe that Squeenix isn't prepared to do three back-flips on Mars if it means making a FF game that will please the fanbase. If they don't, not only will they be losing out on an a VAST amount of dough, but they're reputation as a company will take a hit as well.
