Hurricane 3 is one of the biggest table tennis rubber sellers of all time. A classic rubber especially when speed glued. But with the banning of speed glue the Hurricane 3 Neo has been released with what DHS describe as the powerful neo sponge. So how do they compare? Is there a difference between the two and if so what is that difference?

In this video four of our experienced players test both rubbers for serving, pushing, flicking, driving, blocking, looping and chopping. We also compare their speed, spin and control, which the players preferred and how the players felt they compared to their own rubbers including Tenergy 05. The names of these rubbers were covered up whilst filming so the players didn't know what they were testing. This is why the players refer to them as red or yellow.

In part 1 of this series of videos we look at the physical properties and appearance of Hurricane 3 and Hurricane 3 Neo. Grip, tackiness, bounce test, size, weight, sponge and pip structure are all compared.

In part 2 of this series of videos we compare their rebound speed, throw height, reaction to spin and ability to generate spin.

  • Hats off... Thank you very much for the effort of doing such a GREAT job in comparing those two, seriously its most appreciated. You have no idea how helpfull is that.

    Thank you again.

  • @mahmooddr You're welcome. Thanks for the feedback.

  • You know how long I've been searching for a more scientific comparison of rubbers? This series of 3 videos should be a much larger project. All major brands should hire you to test ALL of their rubbers! Rather than relying on the company descriptions, I find your testing videos to be much more effective. I've had some experience in marketing, enough to say that not enough marketers use people like you to market their products. To me it's obvious: your videos are the ideal marketing strategy.

  • @kenacubed thanks. I've never once been contacted by any manufacturers and only once indirectly by a retailer. . In some ways thats good as we can remain independent. I did email Butterfly once regarding them supplying some tenergy for testing but got no reply. I guess tenergy sells itself.

  • Hi

Do you have any reliable sources to buy H3? I've purchased some H3 Neo Pro but its quality were so bad I got bubble topsheet after 10hrs played. Thanks!

  • @yoko234 Sorry, I've only ever bought one sheet of each so I wouldn't say I have a regular supplier. They were bought off ebay. The H3 Neo I sold on straight after filming. I still have the H3 normal version. I was using it but stopped a couple of weeks ago. I'd no problems with bubbles or wear.

  • kudos to you. this is incredible.

  • I play with Hurricane 3 Neo and like it but there are other good rubbers rubbers that I prefer: Razka7,Barracuda and Tenergy 05-FX, these 4 rubbers have very similar characters the only difference is Neo and Tenergy 05 are heavy but last very long, so you need not to buy more rubbers.

  • @atesadany A member of our league is due to replace his Tenergy 05 at christmas. I'll be renewing my Rakza 7 around that time so I'll probably film a comparision between these two rubbers then. There aren't enough people who use other versionso fo Tenergy for me to compare between different types of that rubber and I can't afford to buy them just for testing. Thanks for the interest.

  • i know some players who used to train at govt facilities in china when they were younger. they said chinese rubbers vary in quality so whenever they got new shipments, players would rummage through looking for a good one. the rest were tossed back in.

once they bought their own rubbers, they preferred butterfly-type rubbers like the two players at the end said: tenergy is way better

i've tried both and now i understand. a well tuned h3 with higher tension sponge would do awesome though
