It's less to the monarch, it's an oath of allegiance to the state. The monarch is just the state 'personified' if you will. Technically, isn't being a republican treasonous anyway, according to the oath he's sworn? Off wiv 'is 'ed!

I agree with him. An MP should not be subordinate to the monarch. An MP is democratically elected to represent the people. A monarch is an accident of birth propping up a corrupt aristocracy. Well done Dennis.

The point is you have every right to disagree with politicians who are not monarchists,do not vote for them but in the democratically elected parliaments a democratically elected MP cannot take their seat if they do not swear an oath of allegiance to the monarch and her heirs and successors how is that democratic,the voters have already given the person a mandate to serve.Gerry Adams was elected because people voted for him that is democracy you may not like it but we live by one person one vote
