@TheCrapocalypse epic fail troll. u will never find any legal whaling vessels in china. for fuck's sakes, keep up with current events and go to japan or norway if you want to stop whaling

Whats funny is sonar doesnt sound anythng like this.... /sigh

If you care about the whales so much, go to China and stop their whaling fleet. They kill whales. SONAR doesn't.
Everything you said on here is ignorant. You clearly have no idea about how sound travels in water. You have no idea why the whales were changing direction. You have no idea about nuclear testing. I swear, I know you want to save the world. That's great. Change your own practices. Don't try to ask anyone to trade human lives for the possible lost of animal life.

@12alien12 Human hearing and marine mammal hearing are not the same in the slightest. Humans are essentially deaf underwater because of impedance mismatch between the eardrum and seawater. Underwater you can mainly only hear low frequency sounds through bone conduction. A person right next to the sonar wouldn't go deaf, they'd go dead, since the sonar would boil the water (and the person) around it. That said, anything that close to a destroyer has more to worry about getting run over.

I love these whiny ecopsychos and their foaming at the mouth over military sonar. None of them have any idea how the actual acoustic physics works and can't even get their decibel references right (no, 130 dB in air is not the same as 130 dB in water). The simple truth is that more whales are killed by boatstrikes and are disturbed more by the constant background noise from shipping traffic. The *only* reason these people are going after the Navy is they're a big target for greedy lawyers.

fuck whales

I served in the royal navy in the 70's, I worked exclusivly on sonar detection systems and back then we were informed that a person in the water would be deafened after being exposed to pings, I'm sure that 40 years on sonar is more powerfull.

I use active SONAR in the Navy, and let me tell you, the dolphins and whales don't get hurt by it. Once they hear it they crowd the ship to investigate. There has been no "proof" that the Navy's SONAR did anything to them. And nicolatwo, rethink your statements before you start posting here. Active SONAR is meant to protect HUMAN lives. Also SONAR is an acronym for Sound Navigation and Ranging, but, I'm sure you knew that since you're trying to stop it. Go ahead and capitalize the whole word.

@chikitiki67 can you agree... that fast moving "objects" underwater AFFECT all of the ocean floor and whale or other school of fish in its way...
this is more logical, and please dont give me an answer that comes from your training manuals. at least respect it that much...

@nicolatwo...US Navy sonar isn't effective over 45 miles...sorry to burst your bubble but i'm one of the ones on the ship doing the pinging...i should know the system, also US sonar doesn't sound like that
Active sonar must be completely stopped. It affects whales in much wider ranges through hundreds of miles, too. This technique is torture to the animals and any human diver, too. Help my campaign to stop active sonar.

For years whales have been beaching themselves and the navy and others have said they don't know the reason. That's a lie. I hope someone or something can stop these death merchants before they kill again. Sonar IS torture.
