Your post workout meal is crucial for growth. In order for your body to start the recovery process, you need healthy nutrients especially carbohydrates and protein within 45 minutes after your weight training.
Immediately following your weight training eat a piece of fruit or other simple carbohydrate in order to increase your blood sugar levels. This will help stimulate growth hormone production.
Tip: pack an apple in your gym bag and eating as you are leaving the gym.

@MrBenIPresume I drink a lot of milk, with protein throughout the way. Big breakfast, so that I have constant food throughout my body, even when I workout. I spend my money on lots of food, instead of shakes and things. About a gallon of milk a day or two every 3 days.. any meat I can.. I burn through it so fast that I have to down anything and everything to gain weight. If you want to get lean, or lose weight though.. I'd say shakes are the way to go.. but for me, I want real food.

@justinhardt1 the idea is to have pre-digested protein available asap post-workout, so if you're consuming chicken, it'll take much longer to digest. there's a period of about 45 minutes after weightlifting where your body can most efficiently use protein, so consuming chicken wouldn't be the best first option. a shake solves the problem. waxy maize is particularly good after weights because it shuttles protein twice as fast as glucose into your cells to repair and build muscle. it's a science.

@MrBenIPresume Learn to read? Someones a bit sensitive. Why would you even use shakes and mixes? Waste of money, in my opinion.
