Avatar more complex than DUNE? You've got to be kidding! This means you didn't understand a word out of DUNE. I've read the series 4 times (The original, by Frank Herbert, not the crappy ones from Brian Herbert) and i still think it's one of the most complex and profound books ever written. It touches aspects vital to humanity like religion, history, ecology, sociology and the characters are way more complex than a profoundly spiritual space marine guy and some very spiritual blue monkeys.

I didn't appologize because I have no need to. I was correct in my points. I have stated two things as being absolute fact.

First, that the story of Dune is more complex than Avatar, which is correct; there is a cast of dozens and the action is spread over years instead of days.

Second, that Dune was created long before Avatar was, which was also correct.

Dune is to SciFi what LOTR is to fantasy. You can never compare a book to a movie. Dune is a masterpiece.

James Cameron wanted to make Call Me Joe, and after the headache of Terminator law suits decided to wait until the author was dead before even thinking about stealing the story.

Thing is, I dont give a fuck if he steals stories so long as he does them justice. We are the audience. He did it with The Terminator(Harlon Ellison stories), and with Aliens(Them! + Starship Troopers), but they are brilliant films. But WTF happened with Avatar? Fucking tree-hugging hippies!

Have you seen Nausicaa, Heavy Metal, Princess Mononoke and Last of the Mohicans? Do you think Avatar is on par with Cameron's Terminator 1 & 2 or Aliens? Cameron wrote Avatar in 1993 before Pocahontas was released, Cameron realized that the technology wasn't ready as he put the script in a drawer and waited until 2006 for technology to be advanced.

cameron wrote Avatar in 1993 don't you know that before Disney's movie? he based it on real world history and Dune and John Carter of Mars including Nausicaa. Cameron had to wait a decade for the technology to do justice to his vision, he greenlighted the film in 2006 and filmed from 2007 till early 2009.

Do you think Avatar is as good as Cameron's Aliens and T2?
