Saturday 20th September 2008, Battersea Park
The 2008 London Tree-Athlon kicked off on a lovely sunny day with close to 2,000 Tree-Athletes gathering at the starting line to help make their city greener. A similar number of tree enthusiasts came to cheer up the runners and took part in fun activities including Big Beat percussion's workshop, massages, face painting, tree walks and a family tree trail!
Des Ryner led the warm-up and stretching routine with Rupert the Bear whilst Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins and comedienne Shazia Mirza were in charge of the starter's gun. They were also joined by Mark Thomas and the lovely Miss Earth London, who were at hand to keep the Tree-Athletes giggling throughout the day!
It's thanks to our sponsors and all the Tree-Athletes that we can continue our greening work across the UK and beyond.
