@AgilityBeagle yeah my female gsd has also not the etreme roach back of other gsd's,,, my gsd is still in training ;) and yeah american show lines are shit

@erich1313sch Yeah, mine's from seiger lines in Germany, and meets the standard perfectly, but somehow, she doesn't have the extreme roach back of her parents and ancestors. It's just a nice slope. Nothing extreme. She just got her Schutzhund III. I do like the german lines better. the American line temperaments lack any type of fire or courage. They're couch potatoes. My Maltese have more correct temperament according to the GSD standard, then the american lines do.

@AgilityBeagle Well my trainers female gsd, is a from german lines, and she is VA1 in chile and she has sch3,,, i prefer the german line over the american line
-
@gsd766 It is, but some good, versatile dogs still do exist, though they're rare. I got mine from pure German sieger showlines, and she meets the AKC standard almost perfectly, yet has her Schutzhund III title and has won and placed at National Championships. If you read the standard, it does NOT require the extremes seen today in the show ring. It is very possible to breed a dog who can do well in both, mine's living proof, but it will take a dedicated breeder/s to make it the norm.

@erich1313sch Depending on the line, many German Showlines are signifcantly worse then the American ones. I train and compete at the National level with my Shepherd in Schutzhund (she has her American Championship AND Schutzhund III title, it is possible) and my German Training coach who knows a ton about German lines says that the German show people just bribe the judges all the time to give them the title.

@NatReader Oh, and just FYI, the majority of us who show or work dogs are not "money grubbing competitors," we truly love our dogs as companions and Best friends first and foremost. We show because we think our dog is beautiful and meets the standard, and we want our dogs to get their championship to prove to others that our dog is of good quality. The 50K that ONE winner gets for Eukanuba, does no even begin to cover the hundreds of thousands that person spent to get there.
-
@NatReader If you really read the standard, it never says they have to look like this. Mine is living proof. She has her Championship, meets the standard pretty well, and still has her Schutzhund 3 (working dog sport created by Max von Stephanitz) herding titles, and has won and/or placed in several working dog championships. Breeders need to start striving to breed a GSD who both meets the standard, and can work too. Not one who does just one or the other. It's very possible.
-
@NatReader The standard itself isn't horrid. It's the judges, I'm appalled that AKC supports judges with such tastes. There are decent judges, they're hard as hell to find though. :(

I am disgusted with what the AKC has done to the standard. It is not the same as 50 years ago when german shepherd dogs were german shepherd dogs. Those American Showline are no longer even herding dogs. The point of a breed standard is for the breed to do what it was intended to do...herd. That is why I will not get another but a WG line working GSD. Leave the frogs to the money grubbing competitors for the Eukanuba title.

@Eluuna i completley agree with you, im happy because my gsd has not the straight back of other show gsd's.. the thing i most hate in shiw lines is the temperament, working line gsd's are dominant, brave and real hard driven, most show line gsd's are pussies
