Electing Senators is a horrible idea. If they were elected they would just muddle the process by challenging our MPs. If elected, they would feel like they have the necessary authority to do so. It would also cost Canadians a lot of money, and it would require yet another change to our constitution, costing more time and money that could be better spent elsewhere. I thought conservatives liked to save the country's money and avoid constitutional battles? Now they want to make gov bigger?

Any body that can function as a brake on a demagogic legislature, yet still responsible to the people albeit on a broader franchise, is an excellent thing.

MPs ought to be challenged, and it ought to be harder for a government to ramrod controversial measures using the party its beholden to. This principle applies to any government, Conservative, Liberal or any other.
